18. Dachshund Health
The main health issue with Dachshunds is due to their long spines in proportion to their short legs.
A common problem is discs that can become ruptured. As stated earlier in this blog, care must be taken to avoid dachshunds using stairs or jumping up onto furniture, to minimise the risk of injury. Dachshunds must never be allowed to become overweight as this puts extra pressure on their spines.
Some Dachshunds can suffer from skin problems, such as lack of pigmentation in their skin or baldness. Regular grooming will keep their coats and skin in tip top condition.
